A cover letter that gets your application read

A cover letter is your chance to explain why you are a good fit for one specific role, in a voice a resume cannot offer. This builder gives you a clean business-letter layout so you can focus on the words. Enter your contact details, the recipient and the date, write the body, and the preview shows a finished one-page letter with the right spacing for the sender block, the recipient address, the greeting, the paragraphs, the closing and your signature name. When it looks right, download it as a PDF that keeps the text selectable for applicant tracking systems.

If you are staring at a blank page, start from one of three templates: an experienced professional, a career changer or an entry-level candidate. Each has three short paragraphs — an opening that names the position and company, a middle paragraph about your strengths, and a polite close that asks for a conversation. The position and company you type in are inserted automatically. Treat the text as scaffolding and replace every general statement with a concrete example from your own work.

Choosing a style and format

Three designs are included. Classic uses a serif typeface and a thin rule under the header, which suits law, finance, education and other traditional fields. Modern adds an accent bar in the colour you choose and works well for marketing, design and technology roles. Minimal centres a light header on a lot of white space. Whichever you pick, keep the letter to a single page, use short paragraphs and avoid repeating your resume line by line. You can set the paper to A4 or US Letter to match the country where you are applying.

Your draft stays on your device

Nothing you type is sent to a server. The letter is rendered and exported locally, and a copy of your draft is saved in your browser's local storage so a refresh or an accidental closed tab does not lose your work. That also means the draft lives only on this device and browser. On a shared or public computer, use the clear button when you finish, and always proofread the final PDF for typos and the correct company name before you send it.

Frequently asked questions

Is my cover letter uploaded anywhere?
No. The letter is built and turned into a PDF in your browser. Your draft is only kept in this browser's local storage so you can come back to it, and you can clear it at any time.
How long should a cover letter be?
Aim for one page: roughly 250 to 400 words in three or four short paragraphs. The word counter above the text box helps you keep track.
What if I do not know the recipient's name?
Leave the recipient and greeting fields empty and the letter opens with 'Dear Hiring Manager,'. Finding a real name on the company website or LinkedIn is usually better.
Are the starter templates final?
They are a starting point. Replace the generic phrases with your own achievements, numbers and reasons for wanting the job before you send the letter.
Will my draft still be there tomorrow?
Yes, as long as you use the same browser and do not clear site data. Use 'Clear saved draft' on a shared computer.
