Create a clean digital signature in seconds

Contracts, offer letters, invoices, permission slips and rental forms increasingly arrive as files instead of paper. Printing a page just to sign it, scanning it again and cleaning up the grey background is slow and rarely looks good. This signature generator gives you a crisp image of your signature that you can drop into Word, Google Docs, a PDF editor, an email footer or a design tool. Draw it with your mouse, trackpad, finger or a stylus — the pad responds to pen pressure where supported and varies the stroke width with your speed, so the result looks like real ink rather than a uniform marker line. If you prefer, switch to Type and pick a handwriting style for your name.

When you download, the tool automatically crops the image to the ink with a small margin, so you don't get a huge empty canvas around a small signature. Choose 2× for sharp results on screens or 4× when the document will be printed.

Transparent PNG or SVG — which should you use?

A transparent PNG is the most compatible choice. Only the ink pixels are opaque, so the signature sits naturally above a signature line, a coloured letterhead or a scanned form, without a white box around it. Almost every office suite, PDF editor and email client accepts PNG. If an app shows a black or checkered background, tick White background and export again.

An SVG is a vector file: it scales to any size without blur and is tiny, which makes it useful for websites, design tools and high-resolution printing. Drawn signatures are saved as smooth paths. Typed signatures keep the text and font name, so they depend on the fonts installed on the viewing device — use PNG when the exact look matters.

Private by design

A signature is personal data, and many online signature makers send your drawing to a server or ask you to create an account. Here everything happens locally in your browser with the Canvas API: no upload, no signup, no tracking of what you draw. You can even disconnect from the internet after the page loads and the tool keeps working. Remember that an image of a signature is easy to copy, so only share it with people and documents you trust, and keep the original file somewhere safe.

Frequently asked questions

Is my signature uploaded anywhere?
No. The drawing pad, the cropping and the PNG/SVG export all run in your browser. Your signature never leaves your device and nothing is stored on a server.
Does the PNG really have a transparent background?
Yes. By default only the ink is opaque, so the signature sits cleanly on top of any document colour. Tick White background if the app you paste into does not handle transparency.
Is a drawn signature legally binding?
In many countries an image of your signature can count as a simple electronic signature, but rules vary by country and document type. Some contracts require a qualified or certificate-based signature. Check what the recipient accepts; this tool does not give legal advice.
Why does the typed signature look different on another computer?
Typed styles use the handwriting fonts installed on your device. The PNG is a picture, so it always looks the same; the SVG keeps the text as text and depends on the viewer's fonts.
How do I add the signature to a PDF?
Download the PNG and place it with any PDF editor, or use our Sign PDF tool, which lets you draw and place a signature on a PDF page — also without uploading.
